San Diego Islamic Center Tragedy Statement

As-Salaam Alaikum Supporter,

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

We are heartbroken by the tragedy at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday, May 18.

Our hearts and duas are with the families carrying unimaginable grief, the loved ones trying to process an unbearable loss, and every community member now struggling to feel safe after a place of worship became the site of such an act of violence.

For many in our community and Muslims worldwide, tragedies like this can trigger fear, anxiety, grief, numbness, hypervigilance, anger, and emotional exhaustion. These moments affect us deeply, not only because lives were lost, but because mosques are meant to be places of peace, refuge, and belonging.

Please check in on one another gently in the coming days. Hold your loved ones close. Make dua. Rest when needed. Seek support when needed.

If you or someone you know is struggling, we want to offer resources for support:

We ask Allah to grant the victims the highest levels of Jannah, surround their families and community with mercy and patience, and bring healing to every heart impacted by this tragedy.
