The Family and Youth Institute (The FYI) seeks a highly motivated Full Time Marketing and Communications Officer. This individual will be part of a team responsible for developing, managing, and executing our overall marketing strategy. The Marketing and Communications Officer will help enhance organizational branding online and in person and build a strong online presence through social media and web-based platforms.  

The successful candidate will be creative, a strategic thinker, and an excellent project manager. S/he can communicate ideas effectively (visually & written) to segmented audiences, create and manage impactful marketing campaigns with limited resources, and analyze social media data to develop more effective campaigns. The candidate will comprehensively understand social media marketing tools and platforms, email marketing, and analytics. They will also have a basic familiarity with search engine optimization and WordPress. The ideal candidate is process-oriented, highly collaborative, and has demonstrated prior skills and experiences. 

This full-time position allows for geographic flexibility anywhere in the United States. 

Responsibilities 

  • Work closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure clear messaging and branding across the organization.
  • Develop and execute brand awareness and online reputation.
  • Develop specific marketing strategies around new resource releases, fundraising events, and campaigns
  • Manage the creation of compelling visual communication materials (e.g., event materials, training resources, videos, infographics, reports, website,  etc.) for various audiences and distribution channels.
  • Create written content to promote our brand and create consistent messaging across all website landing pages.
  • Produce compelling copy/content (emails, social media, website, monthly newsletter, and print); Edit and review content for messaging, style guidelines, brand consistency, and voice; Continually optimize content to improve SEO results.
  • Manage email lists and appropriately segment audiences for various communications. 
  • Administer and manage general and specific marketing strategies on social media platforms. Monitor the company’s social media accounts and offer constructive interaction with users. 
  • Conduct marketing and audience research, stay abreast of the latest trends, and identify new opportunities for growth and development; Compile and analyze data to evaluate marketing key performance indicators (KPIs) across various channels. Track and report statistical data about various resources and campaigns
  • Research effective strategies to generate inbound traffic on social media platforms and website
  • Provide regular analytics reports for campaigns across various platforms. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, English, or related field preferred and practical experience in marketing, communications, and/or graphic design.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or related fields.   
  • 2+ years of project management experience. Meticulous attention to detail, exemplary organizational skills, and demonstrated success in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of the American Muslim community landscape and experience working with American Muslim communities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to excel in independent and team-based work and to collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies
  • Ability to excel as part of a geographically dispersed remote team, including reporting to a supervisor in another location
  • Experienced in the use of social media management systems, email marketing systems (e.g., Mailchimp), content management systems (e.g., WordPress), CRM systems (e.g., Neon), and Microsoft Office products.

Benefits

  • Salary $50,000 – $60,000
  • Full-time, flexible hours, and paid PTO

Zakat eligibility of The FYI

The Family & Youth Institute, or The FYI, is a well-known Muslim organization in the United States. It works to promote mental health and wellness by strengthening and empowering individuals, families, and communities through research and education. It has been working for many years to bring Islamic perspectives to understanding and promoting mental health in our communities.

It is dedicated to serving and supporting Muslims – safeguarding our deen, our families, and our future generations. Therefore, the work of The FYI comes in the category of ‘fi sabeelillah’ or the Path of Allah, within the eight categories where Zakat money can be used.

Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed for it and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah, and for the [stranded] traveler – an obligation [imposed] by Allah, And Allah, is Knowing and Wise.”
(Al-Tawbah 9:60)

According to scholars who widen the meaning of fee sabeelillah to include any activities that promote Islamic growth, The FYI is indeed eligible to receive part of the Zakat funds for its programs and services. I urge Muslims in America to support this organization through their donations, general charity, and through their Zakat. I ask Allah swt to strengthen and guide The FYI to continue its good work in supporting Muslims.

Shaikh Ali Suleiman Ali, PhD

About Shaikh Ali

Sh. Ali Suleiman Ali was born in Ghana where he spent his childhood studying with various Muslim scholars. He then moved to Saudi Arabia and enrolled in the Islamic University of Madina.  He graduated with a degree in both Arabic and Islamic Studies. Dr. Ali went on to complete his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Sh. Ali serves on the Advisory Council of The Family & Youth Institute. He is the Senior Imam and Director of the Muslim Community of Western Suburbs in Canton, Michigan. Additionally, he serves as the Director of Muslim Family Services in Detroit and is a council member of the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA). He is also a member of the North American Imams Federation (NAIF) and the Association of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA).
