When we hear about situations like the Jerry Sandusky case at Penn State, the Miramonte Elementary School scandal in Los Angeles, or reports of a child being sexually abused in our own communities, the natural response is to ask “what happened?” At Prevent Child Abuse America, we are focused on answering a second question: “what can be done to make our country and communities better at preventing child sexual abuse?” Fortunately, we have some ideas. In order to make a real impact, steps need to be taken at every level of the social ecology, including communities as a whole, youth-serving organizations and schools, and individuals like parents.
